Description
Incredible photograph of a sheep herder headed home just at twilight. Beautiful! I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to capture this wonderful image! For several years my husband and I were "Wagon Masters" and we guided RVers on 59 day Tours throughout beautiful Mexico. We met many beautiful people. Story below: The Fine Art America watermark will not appear on any of the finished products that you may wish to buy.***
Shades of Mexico
Written by Phyllis Kaltenbach about 1985:
It is hot and dusty and the lady sweeps the bare yard until the ground is clean, like cement.
The little burros carry loads of grass and lumber and/or delivers milk, a large milk can on either side.
Ladies wade out into the river on a hot day and scrub the clothes clean and husbands, children and/or pets may keep them company.
A tiny donkey comes toward you carrying a very large man.
And the Oxen pull the plow while the field is being planted by hand.
You can travel through the desert for hours and suddenly, you see an Oasis of Palm Trees, a cool green, a village and a river.
There are green parrots and monkeys of their own shades.
Then there are fertile valleys with orchards and sugarcane and Magwey on the hillsides. Steep mountains, gentle hills, winding roads and so many crops!
Scruffy jungle and lush green jungle.
Ruins torn almost, to the ground and beautiful, overpowering pyramids that you can walk through, down into or to the top!
Pretty little villages and friendly people, town squares and Farmers Markets!
Fruits and veggies and buckets of Prawns in all sizes.
There are young children working their jobs, learning the family trade. Some in the Mariachi Band, others, dancing in bright colorful costumes.
Breathtaking waterfalls where you might not have expected.
Ladies carrying bowls of dough or corn on their head. (They prefer not to be photographed!)
The little 5 year old boy that my husband teased with a “slight of hand” with a quarter!. Oh, he was so mad! until the quarter reappeared so suddenly.
The little boy who I taught to float on his back in a shallow pool. He was thrilled!
Two children, on a burro taking their wares to town. (photo)
The Herder and his/her flock of goats and sheep quietly making their way along a six lane highway.. Or into a sunset along a dusty road. (photo)
Oh, there is so much beauty to be seen, so many nice people to meet. This is the best way I know to show you, “The Shades of Mexico.” We were in areas that even many of Mexico's people have never seen. I was fortunate to have a good camera and lenses and I have some astounding photos, but this is my favorite. Several family and friends have this in a framed 20X30 print of this over the mantels of the fireplaces. The Fine Art America watermark will not appear on any of the finished products that you may wish to buy.***
Suggest putting it on canvas or the beautiful metal print. PAINTINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY PHYLLIS
Phyllis Kaltenbach, was born and raised on a California ranch. Always an A student in Art throughout school, loved Art of all kinds. Photographer from age 5 or 6 with an abundance of 1st and 'Best of Shows' Awards, and some commercial work. Studied Art and Architecture at Stephen's College, Columbia, Mo. from 1951 to 1953. Began painting in all media in 2001, with a variety of excellent teachers. Phyllis has her own style of painting that seems to go from Realistic to Impressionistic. Keeps her Iowa husband of 63 years 'off balance' most of the time. Her paintings are bright and happy. Her favorite subjects are Animals, mostly wild and some domestic. Travel, some Landscapes and Nautical often show up in her studio, as well. Her favorite media is acrylics. She is a master of color with a bit of wit thrown in.
She says, 'If God can use all that lovely color in nature, then so can I. But he is a better artist than I.
