Description
Pogonip (or hoarfrost as it is called in the Mid-west) is a Season in Nevada when it is below freezing and ice crystals form on everything. Even the weeds are beautiful. The first time I saw it I thought it was a "Whiteout". It is beautiful! To see everything in white and then realize it is not snow, but ice! A world of WHITE! WOW! This is a Nevada that I had not seen, when we lived here 30 years before. I doubt if Pogonip is in the dictionary or in the scrabble words, as I believe it must be a relatively new word and apparently is only in the North West. Have any of you in Eastern USA, ever heard the term, "Pogonip?" The FAA watermarck will not appear on any of your beautifully finished Art!

Gorgeous Capture! I see your artistic talent runs in your family! In the midwest, we call this hoarfrost; when moisture-laden air freezes into a thick frost on trees, shrubs, weeds and other surfaces. L&F

Fantastic capture by your son, Phyllis!!! We have this phenomenon in Ontario Canada but we call it hoarfrost. L/F
Phyllis Kaltenbach replied:
Thank you Hanne! I always love the appearance of this "pogonip" or "Hoarfrost". John took this photo for me because he knew I liked it! He also holds a camera a lot steadier then I! ;-)

What a wonderful capture of the frosted covered pine cone! In Omaha, we call it ice fog! v

Cool capture! L
Phyllis Kaltenbach replied:
Thank you William. I told our son that with our house at a slightly lower level then his, we didn't have any "pogonip". So he took a photo for me.

Wonderful image of a beautiful phenomenon. Yes, Phyllis, when I lived in Nevada as a little girl, I did hear of it. I saw it, too. There are so many lovely sights like that out in the dessert and in the mountains. f/v
