Description
I painted "Silent Shadows" a few years ago and recently returned to that desert spot. A few things are different now, my colors are slightly different, but the moon and the cactus were still waiting for me. A new path, perhaps, has appeared, and a few more clouds. I do not want to offend someone by painting almost the same thing but "Silent Shadows" found a new home and my husband misses the painting. So here is the new one. Sorry, my friends who are looking for my animals, but I did not even put my dear little roadrunner in this one. Now smile....
Smart Cactus: Like other succulent plants, most cacti employ a special mechanism called "crassulacean acid metabolism" (CAM) as part of photosynthesis. Transpiration, during which carbon dioxide enters the plant and water escapes, does not take place during the day at the same time as photosynthesis, but instead occurs at night. The plant stores the carbon dioxide it takes in as malic acid, retaining it until daylight returns, and only then using it in photosynthesis. Because transpiration takes place during the cooler, more humid night hours, water loss is significantly reduced. The FAA watermark will not show on finished products! *
